In June 2006 at the Canadian Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships, the Senior
Group from The Academy was named Canada's National Senior
Group Champions. This was a culmination of five years of hard
work for this group of teens who have schooled, trained and
competed nationally and internationally together. Brihana
Mosienko, Johanna Vortel, Alissa Hansen, Roxanne Porter and
Eve McDonald have been Novice Champions, Junior Champions,
Olympic Development Champions and now the declared Senior
Group Champions in preparation for the upcoming Pan American
Games and World Championships in 2007. Four additional athletes
from across Canada (Kathryn DeCata, Sport Seneca, Ontario;
Suzy Lendvay, Burlington Rhythmics, Ontario; Monika Lechowitz,
Etobicoke Olympium, Ontario and Meagan King, Edmonton Rhythmics,
Alberta) have joined The Academy Senior Group in their training
at The Academy Gym under the direction of the designated National
Team Group Coach, Megan Arnold. The girls live, school and
train together with the Core Group from The Academy. From
this hotbed of National Team talent, an ultimate selection
of a six member Group will be made in 2007 for the coveted
challenge of earning Canada's first ever Group berth for an
Olympic Games. We wish all The Academy athletes and their
new teammates much luck as they journey together in preparation
for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
